The Hunter Passage 42 blends center cockpit comfort with surprising performance. The Hunter Design Team directed by Warren Luhrs has brought a contemporary cruising boat with blue water capabilities. Her powerful masthead rig, roller furling JIB and cockpit like handling make those long passages truly enjoyable. These is even a double sun pad for those lazy afternoons.
Below deck, the 42 is truly a work of art. Designer fabrics, hand rubbed teak, and Corian counters provide the warm, friendly atmosphere, while her 14’ beam gives the spaciousness you need. Weekender, long term cruiser, or live a board, you won’t find more room in any other boat her size.
The incredible salon is perfect for dining in it entertaining the crew. Any mate will appreciate the layout of the fully functional galley. Refrigerator/freezer, propane stove and oven, microwave, and storage galore will change your outlook about cooking onboard.
Privacy is paramount for extending cruising and the Hunter 42 with it’s two stateroom, two head design keeps it that way. The sumptuous master stateroom offers a queen size walk around berth, incredible storage and hanging lockers, plus a full head shower/tub. The interior of the Hunter Passage is finished in hand rubbed teak with teak and holly cabin sole and molded fiberglass headliner. Her 14’ beam provides comfortable accommodations whether cruising or living aboard. The spacious main salon, sea-going galley, two staterooms with en-suite heads are well laid out with plenty of room for family and friends to gather as well as spaces to get away from the crowd. Hanging lockers, cabinets and drawers as well as open counter space provide good and easily accessed storage. There are 5 opening hatches, 10 opening ports with 6 fixed ports in the hull sides and large wrap around windows in the main salon/galley. All hatches and ports are equipped with bug screens and shades.
The guest stateroom forward features an “island” style V-berth that is more easily accessed from both port and starboard than a normal V-berth. There is drawer and locker storage beneath the aft end of the berth and a larger storage space for spares accessed beneath the mattress. There are dressing settees to port and starboard, the settee to port also serving a small desk with lift-top storage. To starboard, there is a cedar lined locker with shelves. A mirror and 2 coat hooks are mounted on the bulkhead. A hanging locker is located behind the stateroom door.
The forward head may be accessed either from the forward stateroom or the salon. The head is finished in white molded fiberglass surfaces with a teak shower grate and trim and Corian countertops. The electric flush head is located at the forward end of the compartment. Along the outboard edge runs the counter with deep sink. There is a mirrored locker above and a shelf above and outboard. A smaller locker is located beneath the sink. The shower is located at the aft end of the compartment with a seat outboard. A curtain slides on a stainless-steel track to keep water away from the head and counter area.
The salon is next aft. To port there is a C-shaped dinette surrounding a teak table. At the inboard end there is an additional bench seat with a hinged top for access to storage space beneath. The dinette can convert into a double berth. To starboard, there is a settee with shelves and lockers outboard. Large windows forward and in the hull-sides provide ample light, and ventilation is very good as a result of an opening port and 2 hatches in this space.
The U-shaped galley is aft and to starboard. There are Corian countertops surrounded by teak fiddles. A large open counter space is forward and outboard with open dish storage beneath a row of cabinets. There are three drawers and a locker beneath this section. Just aft is the three-burner stove and oven with stainless crash bar. Aft of the stove is a microwave with shelf above. At the aft end of the counter space there is a huge top loading freezer compartment and top and front-loading fridge compartment. They are nicely detailed with thick molded insulation and gas shocks to hold the lids. Spice racks are located aft over the counter and there are two large lockers and a shelf above. At the forward inboard end of the galley there is a two-bin stainless sink. A locker with shelves beneath the sink provides additional space for storing large items.
The navigation station is in the passageway to the aft stateroom. The navigation table is outboard facing and allows use both in a standing position or seated at a swing out seat. The AC/DC electrical panel is located outboard. Beneath the aft end of the table there is a small locker. Aft of the navigation station in the passageway are 2 larger cedar lined hanging lockers. The locker is pre-plumbed for an added washer/dryer.
The master stateroom is of an impressive size for a vessel of her size and more like your master bedroom at home than onboard a boat! The queen island berth is located on centerline. To port, there is a settee with a vanity desk forward. Shelves run along the hull side. To starboard, there is a hanging locker and a locker with shelves. Hull side and stern ports, cabin side ports and a large hatch provide very nice light and great ventilation. Forward in the master stateroom is a large locker which contains the batteries and the inverter/charger.
The en-suite head is forward and to starboard. The compartment is finished in molded white fiberglass with teak trim and Corian countertops, making it very easy to maintain. The electric flush head is at the aft end of the space with an L-shaped countertop outboard. There is a shelf outboard of the sink with mirrored lockers above. Forward is the separate shower stall/bathtub. Two opening ports provide airflow through the space.
The Raymarine suite was new in 2015. Mounted at the helm in a NAVPOD.
The hull and deck of the Hunter Passage 42 are a combination balsa core/solid laminate designed by Hunter under the direction of Warren Luhrs. The hull is white with a light grey boot stripe and blue sheer stripes. Her deck is white gelcoat with blue gray nonskid. It is surrounded by a slotted aluminum toe rail and stainless-steel stanchions with double lifelines. There are boarding gates to port and starboard and a wide swim step with steps leading from the deck to the waterline. There is a swim ladder and hot/cold shower at the stern. Four lockers at the stern provide great on deck storage space. The center cockpit is protected by a full canvas enclosure. A stainless-steel arch serves to support the mainsheet traveler, stereo speakers and cockpit lights. The cockpit features U-shaped seating with the companionway slightly offset to port. There is a cutout with step to access the side deck on the starboard side. Forward, there is a deep anchor locker.
The electrical panel is located at the navigation station with battery switches behind the master stateroom open door.
The engine compartment is in the passageway from the salon to master stateroom and offers plenty of room for working on the generator or auxiliary engine.
